iPhone 11 Is The Best-Selling Smartphone In The World & The Competition Doesn’t Even Come Close

The iPhone 11 and 11 Pro launched in September last year and started off well in terms of sales around the world, including India. However, many expected the shipments of the iPhone 11 Series to fall due to the COVID-19 pandemic which doesn't seem to be the case. 

In fact, in the last quarter; iPhone 11 was the highest-selling smartphone and even exceeded the second best-selling phone which happens to be Samsung's Galaxy A51.

The recent data released by Omdia says that Apple shipped 19.5 million iPhone 11 units during the first quarter of the year while Samsung's A51 shipped 6.8 million units. The chart also tells a story that even with the COVID-19 pandemic; the iPhone 11 is still selling more than what was expected and the competition is nowhere close. 

Samsung's Galaxy A51 falls short by 12.7 million units even though it is far cheaper than the iPhone 11. Xiaomi's Redmi Note 8 was the third highest shipped smartphone of the last quarter with 6.6 million units being slightly shy of Samsung's Galaxy A51.

"Despite the devastating impact of coronavirus on consumer demand, Apple's iPhone 11 shipments in the first quarter of 2020 exceeded its total for iPhone XR shipments during the first quarter of 2019 by nearly 6 million units," said Omdia in its report.

In the report, Omdia commented on Apple's performance in the first quarter "This represents a major improvement in company performance since the first quarter of last year when the iPhone XS and XS Max did not rank among the top 10 models. The iPhone XR was the only new model to appear in the top 10 at the time. This year, however, all three newly released models made the Top 10."

Omdia praises the price balance between the three iPhones that Apple has launched in the last few months where the iPhone SE starts at $399 followed with $599 for the iPhone 11. While the iPhone 11 Pro starts at $999; it still managed to make the list and performed better than the iPhone XS and XS Max from last year.
